Day 1: Aug 12, Rexburg, ID to Sidney, NE
Because our moving truck was going to take a week to get out to Indiana, we decided to take this trip slow, and do some sight seeing on the way.
Our first day of driving was our longest, from Rexburg, ID to Sidney, NE. We woke up that morning, ate some breakfast, did some last minute cleaning of our fridge and packed up the car. After pawning some food off on our neighbors, we got in the car and headed on our way. It was weird driving away knowing that we probably wouldn’t be going to back Rexburg for many, many years. Weird…but a good weird. It felt good to finally be off on this trip that has been plaguing my mind for the last couple months. Good to finally be moving our lives in a positive direction, instead of waiting for application after application to turn us down. Good to be doing something different in a different place. I just had to not think of how this “different” was taking us so far away from family, or how this “different” was taking us from financially stable to financially destitute.
Here’s Ashlyn in our little yard for the last time. She doesn’t look too sad about it.
Our first stop was a mere hour away in Driggs, Idaho for a poopy diaper. Off to a good start. But at least she was happy.
Our next stop was Jackson Hole, a mere 50 minutes away from Driggs. To get to Jackson you have to go up, over, and down the other side of a steep, steep mountain. Our car could make it up just fine, but going down the other side we were shaking and shimmying pretty good any time we pushed on the breaks. It was bad enough that we had to get it looked at. We stop for about an hour at a tire place we passed on the way in. Our pads were fine, the rotors were a little warped, but not bad, but they didn’t have them in stock anyway. SOooooo, back on the road we went. Two stops in two hours…not really a good sign, but from here our drive was finally in motion and nothing much happened. And I mean Nothing…
We got into Sidney, NE pretty late, but getting ready for bed Ashlyn still had time to go through her checklist to make sure we got everything
